Creative Director of one of the UK’s most respected creative consultancies in music and media, Stylorouge; Rob O’Connor has been behind an enormous amount of memorable imagery. He has created album sleeves for such artists as Blur, Paul McCartney, Tears For Fears, George Michael, The Corrs, Jake Bugg and McFly, and he was Art Director for the now iconic posters for Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting movie campaign.
He studied graphic design at Brighton Art College and much later enrolled to study film direction under Jim Pasternak at UCLA. He set Stylorouge up in London in 1981. His work in video and television has included promos and documentaries for Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, Manic Street Preachers and The Shires as well as TV commercials for Universal, Sony and BMG. A passionate advocate of his craft, he has also been actively involved in the role of visiting lecturer and external assessor at many UK universities including Chelsea, Brighton and Camberwell Schools of Art and Plymouth University. He has also taken some of the photography used in Stylorouge’s design work – commissions include: UB40, Imelda May, The Cure, Show Of Hands, Squeeze and Baaba Maal.
In 2001 Berlin-based publishers Die Gestalten published Delicious: The Design and Art Direction of Stylorouge a hardback book documenting the agency’s first 20 years in business.
Rob promotes live music events (as a hobby!) and, ever the glutton for punishment Rob is an enthusiastic Charlton Athletic fan.
